AXS Space is a Canadian non-profit with a mandate to empower the disability community through arts, media production, and education. AXS Space is particularly interested in using new media strategies to strengthen the disability community. With the tools and guidance provided, people from these communities will become the next creators, developers and artist to inform the general public. We believe that it is critical these rarely heard voices are recognized.
AXS Space is the first of its kind in the creative and media arts, co-working, tech developing and education arenas. We are in both physical and virtual space, offering guidance and development in web and media creation, and social entrepreneurship for and by the disability community.
AXS Space collaborates with various non-profits and NGOs to make our projects happen. The organization is planting the seeds for the next generation, striving to become a physical, virtual, social, arts and networking hub which can provide the skills for the disability community to be self-sufficient and grow as creators of media and technology. We are creating hacking events to advance coding skills in the disability community. The flagship is AXS Map, a project conceived by president Jason DaSilva soon after he was diagnosed with MS and faced a newfound challenge of accessibility himself.
We are a vibrant community of people who believe in the power of technology, code and media to spark social change at home and abroad.
We offer guidance, training and mentorship to create a dedicated populace of people both inside and outside of the disability community. We seek to create the solutions we desire.
We are in an era that is critically informed by media and technology. We believe it is important to have full inclusion of all people at the forefront of this changing landscape.
While more traditional disability organizations advocate for those with disabilities, AXS Space empowers members of the disability community to speak for themselves and dramatically improve the quality of life for themselves as artists and members of society. In addition to fostering a better quality of life for the disabled, AXS Space fosters better inclusion of disabled people into mainstream culture.
The vision of AXS Space is to create artistic expression to supercharge the movement for inclusion of people with disabilities. We aim to engage audiences to explore the disability experience using new media, films, and the power of story. By exploring alternate realities of perception and experience, we believe the world becomes a more compassionate, inclusive and enriching place.
